Harvey D. Ginsburg of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida, passed away in the hospice inpatient unit of Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday, February 9, 2017.
Harvey grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, son of the late Martin and Lucille (Warga) Ginsburg, with his sister Rhoda (Ginsburg) Ross. He was an Eagle Scout and on the high school swim team before attending Pennsylvania State University.
After receiving his law degree from the University of Toledo, Harvey became a public defender in Central Massachusetts. During his decade-long tenure there, he met and married Lois (Parker) (DuFries) and became step-father to Lisa (DuFries) Welsh, Bradley and Curtis DuFries. Becoming grandfather to Lexi DuFries of Winter Garden, Florida, Becky, John and Rachel Welsh of Worcester, Massachusetts was life-changing, as was being uncle to Marnie (Ross) Weinberg of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Carrie Ross of Chicago, Illinois.
He also leaves his brother-in-law Michael Ross of St. Petersburg, Florida, Marnie’s husband Josh and sons Zachary and Benjamin and Carrie’s husband Ricky, many dear friends and family.
Harvey was an attorney for 30 years in the Fort Lauderdale area and a member of the Massachusetts and Florida bars.
As a founding member of the Broward Endurance Sports Team (B.E.S.T) Harvey was an active triathlete. For his 40th birthday he ran the New York Marathon and, his 50th, finished his first IRONMAN. He was also an avid motorcyclist, scuba diver and skier and took many roadtrips with Lois to participate in those great loves.
