Herbert Ett's Obituary
Herbert Ett, 89, passed away peacefully on December 7th in Aventura, FL.He was born in Far Rockaway, NY, November 24, 1923. He was the middle child of European immigrants and the only member of the family to attend college. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and served in the US Navy in the Pacific theatre of operation during WWII. Along with his older brother and brother-in-law, they set out to Miami, FL to enter the home construction business in 1956. Newport Homes constructed several hundred homes, of which none were lost during hurricane Andrew. Herb, as he was affectionately known as to his friends, was an avid tennis player and greatly enjoyed his daily match and the friends he socialized with at his morning post-game breakfast get-together. He loved to watch "Western" movies, have an evening cocktail, read, and create epicurean dishes in the kitchen.He is survived by his beloved wife Geraldine, to whom he was married for 64 years; his son Richard Ett and daughter-in-law Linda Ett of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter Marjorie Sommer of Miami, FL; three granddaughters, Rachel Ett, Chelsea Sommer and Taylor Sommer; a sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Martin Hitzig of Miami; and six nieces and nephews. He will be missed greatly by all.A memorial service will be held in January.
