Herbert R. Warner's Obituary
WARNERHerbert Roger, beloved husband of Helen, his loving wife and soul mate for over 74 years, quietly passed away on November 21st. Herb was lucid and courageous to the end as he fought for life against a 96 year old body which ultimately had nothing left to sustain him. He died with peace and dignity surrounded by his adoring and heartbroken family. Herb retired to South Florida in 1980 after successful careers in the wholesale liquor business, the stock market, and commercial real estate. He was born in Boston on November 4, 1916 to Barnard and Anna Warner, and grew up in Newton. A chemical engineering graduate of Tufts University in 1939, he chose marriage to Helen and starting family over his parents’ wishes that he become a physician. During World War II, Herb was an unwitting member of the “A Team” of the Manhattan Project, which worked on developing the first atomic bomb. The great years were spent in Jacksonville, Florida, where he raised his daughters and spend summers on the beach with his grandchildren. Always a gentleman and a scholar, his intelligence, humor and wit combined to make him a great storyteller, as well as the point man on all things current. There was no subject Dad could not enrich. Herb is survived by his devoted wife Helen, his children Irma (Michael) Goldstein and Cynthia (Ira) Leesfield, grandchildren Beth Becker, Sandi (David) Fahn, Michael Becker, Jennifer Leesfield, Laurie (Neal) Adler, Dara Koch, and Devorah (Jason) Daniel. He is also survived by his precious great-grandchildren: Alana, Orly, Michael, Bailey, Stella, Ava, Natanya, and Norah. His legacy will live on through them and the many lives he touched and enriched. His deepest footprint will be the power and passion of his love affair with Helen, which serves as a daily reminder of the joys of a healthy and growing relationship.
