Hilda Leona Kane's Obituary
Hilda Leona Kane, beloved matriarch, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away at the age of 94 on Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Aventura, Florida.
Born to Fannie and Herman Balik on May 15, 1929, in Bronx, New York, Hilda was a softball player, musician, and opera singer. She met her late husband and one true love, Irving Kane, while performing in the Catskill Mountains at the Evan’s Hotel. They were engaged August 18, 1952, and married December 18, 1952. They moved to Miami with Irving’s brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Sally Konigsberg. Together, they started their family and founded a furniture and design business; Hilda was the showroom manager.
Hilda is survived by her loving family: children Steven Kane (JoAnne), Marian Gold (Kenneth), and Debra Siegel (James), along with grandchildren Erika Kane, Alyson Kane, Ila Gold, Lauren Gold (Ian Melnick), David Gold, Justin Siegel (Kate Siegel), Andrea Siegel, and Jayne Siegel, plus two cherished great grandchildren, Noa Melnick and Mick Siegel.
A lifelong learner, Hilda obtained an AA degree from Miami Dade Community College in Accounting. She held her real estate license and was a Series 7 stockbroker. She graduated from the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning and became a Bat Mitzvah as an adult at the age of 70. Hilda was involved with various Jewish organizations, including Hadassah, ORT, and Miami Jewish Home for the Aged. In her later years, Hilda met companion Seymour Bodner and became a passionate Miami Heat fan.
Hilda, a true friend, was popular at her senior residence. She loved exercising her mind with games like crossword puzzles, word jumble, and Sudoku, and she would definitely beat you in a game of Scrabble. Above all else, she adored her family.
Her family sends their deepest “Thank You’s” to her caregivers throughout the years and her wonderful second family at The Vi at Aventura.
