Howard E Shapiro's Obituary
Howard E. Shapiro, almost 91 years of age, passed away on August 14, 2018. He recently moved to Florida from Pennsylvania, where he had lived for many years. In Florida, he was able to spend his last few months with family, a benefit to him and even more so to his family. He was predeceased by his wives, Marion, the love of his life, and Eleanor, and his parents, Philip and Sophie Shapiro. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Jacobowitz, his brother-in-law, Mel, his nieces, Janet Ostroff and her husband Jeff, Amy Dashiell and her husband Joe, his nephew Arthur Strauss, and his wife Ronna, and his great-nieces and nephew, Allie, Jordyn, Jaime, Robyn and Eric, and great-great niece, Rayanna. Not surprisingly, he was known to almost all as "Uncle Howard". Prior to his retirement Howard was a ceramic engineer, which he loved, and during the course of his career he received 12 patents of which he was very proud. He loved art and music, especially classical, and was a dedicated swimmer his entire life, beginning at Castle Hill Pool in the Bronx, where he was believed to be the first baby when it opened in 1928, and swimming up to 2 miles daily at the local Y for many years. We will miss him greatly. He will be buried in Pennsylvania beside his wife, Marion. There will be a Memorial Service in his honor on Sunday, August 19, at 3 pm, at Levitt Weinstein, 18840 W. Dixie Hwy, North Miami Beach, FL. Contributions in his memory may be made to Vitas Hospice, which provided outstanding care in the last few weeks of his life
