Hyman "Hy" Sternfeld's Obituary
Sternfeld, Hyman ‘Hy’ of Miami Beach and formerly of Forest Hills, New York passed away on October 5th in the late evening hours while sleeping at age 86. He joins his wife Bette in heaven who passed away only 3 1/2 months ago on June 20th. They were married for 49 years and are now together again. He is survived by his beloved only daughter, Geraldine.
Hy was a man who lived life on his own terms. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures but his greatest love was his family. He never wanted anything fancy or extravagant for himself, but was at the same time so very generous with others – be it friends or family. His greatest satisfaction was to watch people enjoy their lives through his generosity.
He was an avid bike rider and loved going on long walks. Up until just weeks before his passing, he would brag to the young people in his building that he walked 3 miles every day. Even though the walks became more difficult and slower due to his illness, he still did it.
He enjoyed the city of Miami Beach (his home for over half his life) as much as he adored his family & friends. Hy spent as much time on the beach as possible and walked the length of the boardwalk countless times. He soaked in the sun, the sand and the energy of his beloved city. That is what he would say helped to keep him young at heart.
He also loved going shopping for food. His favorite spots were Epicure, Whole Foods and Trader Joes. His favorite thing was to get a whole prepared chicken or an ice cream cake! The beauty of his life was in his simplicity….never jealous and always happy for everyone and comfortable in his own skin. May he rest in peace with his wife Bette for all eternity.
