Irving Fields' Obituary
FIELDS, IRVING, age 77, passed away to a better place on Wednesday, October 19th following a complicated battle with prostate cancer, and a rare blood disorder. Irving was born in San Jose, Costa Rica to the late Louis and Millie Feigenblatt. It’s where he received his Spanish nickname “Chaquito”. He graduated from Miami Beach Sr. High School in 1956 where he was a member of “The Rebels” and was frequently spotted at “Dolly’s” on Espanola Way. He also attended the University of Florida and the University of Miami before joining the U.S. Army. He met his beautiful wife, Barbara (deceased) in Miami Beach. While in the Army, they celebrated the birth of their first daughter, Marci, in Wurzburg Germany in 1963. When his service was over, it was back to Miami Beach, where their second daughter, Lisa, was born in 1967. In 1971, Irving embarked on a lifelong dream and became a pioneer in healthy living and eating by opening the famed Granny Feelgood’s Natural Foods Restaurant in downtown Miami. His dedication and passion for healthy food continued even after selling Granny Feelgood’s in 2004 and taking his talent to the Café at Books and Books in Coral Gables. In 2012, Irving remarried lifelong friend Susan “Suji” Bell. Irving was the beloved father of Marci Fields Kolondra (Andrew) and Lisa Fields Cilli (Vinnie), adored grandfather of Vinnie Jr., Christopher, Andrew Jr. (A.J.) and Alex. He is survived by loving wife Suji, and extended family around the world. Irving’s presence lit up any room he walked into. He brought joy and smiles to everyone who met him. He loved to travel, cook, read, entertain, and was full of adventure but most importantly, he loved life and his family. He was the king of Customer Service, the original Miami foodie, and a world-class mensch. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday October 23rd at Levitt-Weinstein Eternal Light Funeral Center, 18840 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach. Dad, we love you up to the sky, past the moon, into the stars, into pieces and pieces.
