Dr. Irving Waldman
April 22, 1934 - November 29, 2022
Aventura, Florida - Dr. Irving Waldman, M.D., 88, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on November 29th in Aventura, Florida after battling a rare heart disease called Amyloidosis for almost six years. He outlived many of the doctor's projections and was a fighter until the end.
Irv attended Truman State University a/k/a N.E. Missouri State in Kirksville, Missouri majoring in Biology where he returned years later in the 1980's to deliver a commencement address to the graduating class that was centered around lasting friendships and his best friend Carl Mitten. He served in the armed forces and was honorably discharged as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
Irv obtained his medical degree at University of Buffalo, and went on to complete a residency in Radiology at Cornell University in New York. He was a Board-Certified Radiologist for nearly 50 years practicing in the South Florida area, with privileges at North Miami General, Palmetto Hospital, and at the Memorial Regional Hospitals in Broward County, Florida. He primarily resided in Miami Shores, North Miami and ultimately Aventura for the past 30 years.
During his life and retirement, he devoted his time to his family, swimming, exercising, reading, and most importantly in recent years, a pro bono project where he volunteered remotely for Health thru Walls, which is a non-profit organization in Haiti where he interpreted x-ray imaging.
Irv was a gentle soul who would often remark, that he carried his adornments on his soul, a quote from Cyrano de Bergerac. He greatly admired Harry S. Truman, our 33rd President, and was a lifelong tennis fan and avid player. He enjoyed the outdoors, biking, and running often.
Irv was a devoted husband to his wife, Elinda, for 40 years, and was a loving friend, son, brother, (Iris Fields) uncle, father and grandfather, and is survived by his loving wife, Elinda, his children, David, (Lisa), Michael, (Shari), Lisa, (Tom), Laurie, Jill, (John), Cory, Curtis, (Alissa), Alan (deceased) as well as his grandchildren, Jared, Kennedy, Zachary, Isabella, Nico, Asa, Dillion and Riley.
A private celebration of life and service will be held with close family and friends. Please consider and send donations to www.amyloidosis.org
