Dr. Isidor Hazan's Obituary
Dr. Isidor Hazan passed away in Miami Beach on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at the age of 80. He will be remembered and deeply missed for his tremendous sense of humor, his intellect and worldliness, and above all, his deep devotion to his family and friends.
Born on July 19, 1939, in Bulgaria to Sam Hazan and Aneta Konfino Hazan, Isidor immigrated to Israel as a young child. It was in Israel that he met the love of his life, Shulamit (“Shula”) Peretz. They married in 1965 and shared more than five decades of partnership, friendship, and devotion. Isidor completed his early academic studies in Israel before pursuing his doctorate in Vienna, where he defended his thesis entirely in German after only one year of intensive language study—a reflection of his brilliance, determination, and curiosity.
Isidor and Shula later moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where they welcomed their two children, Dr. Ann Hazan and Dr. Tal Hazan. Work eventually led the family to Southfield, Michigan, where they built a warm and enduring community of friends. After retirement, Isidor and Shula relocated to Miami Beach, Florida, embracing sunshine, culture, and the friendships that became central to their lives.
Dr. Hazan enjoyed a proud and distinguished 50-year career as a chemist with DuPont, specializing in automotive paints and coatings. He was widely respected for his expertise, mentorship, and collaborative spirit. Over the course of his career, he contributed to more than 60 patents and earned recognition from colleagues and leadership alike for his innovation and professional excellence.
Outside his professional accomplishments, Isidor cherished time with his family and adored his grandchildren, Ben and Emme, with whom he shared endless laughter, stories, and adventures. He approached life with warmth and a love of connection, delighting in dining out “like kings,” discussing history and philosophy, and enjoying thrillers and comedies. In his later years, he became a beloved presence at a favorite park bench in Miami Beach, where neighbors would gather around Isidor and his faithful dog Lulu as part of their daily ritual.
Dr. Hazan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shula Hazan; his daughter Dr. Ann Hazan and her husband Steven Sibulkin; his grandchildren Ben and Emme Sibulkin; his son Dr. Tal Hazan; his cousin David Konfino and his wife Marilyn; and a loving community of extended family and friends.
Dr. Hazan was laid to rest at Beth David Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, Florida.
His legacy endures in the memories and hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known him. May his memory be a blessing.
