Janet Krutchik was perhaps one of the most influential teachers I ever had in all my schooling. She was more than a teacher, she treated me with respect, taught me to really think, observe and discuss. By way of film. But that was just the jumping off point for much broader lessons. I recall my last couple years in school I took her class and was fortunate to spend lots of time with her . Learning, laughing, discussing. I have so may fond memories , but the gift of really impactful cinema is what stands out. She not only loved film, she broke it down in a way that opened your mind. She was a true teacher, if not just the conventional learning but of ways that translated to life. If we are fortunate we get one great educator in our lives and she was mine. She introduced me to a film that would become my very favorite film of all time. Cinema paradiso, here is a quote from the movie- “Whatever you end up doing, love it. The way you loved the projection booth when you were a little squirt.” That’s for you Janet. I would have loved to have seen you again, caught up with you sat and laughed and shared life and where it had taken me. I think I did alright, I think you would have we proud. And I love movies more than ever, especially the ones that evoke thoughts and emotions. That I think you would be most proud of cause you helped foster that.
Till we meet again. Rest easy .
