"Jerry" Jerome Frankel's Obituary
With hearts full of love, memories, and gratitude the Frankel and Richter families are sharing the passing of beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-father Jerome (Jerry) A. Frankel (December 23rd, 1925-June 10th, 2024). Jerry’s greatest gift was his ability to create connections with others. With a smile that could light up a room and a genuine interest in people's lives, he had an uncanny knack for making friends wherever he went. From the local coffee shop to the neighborhood beach, our grandfather was always quick to strike up a conversation and share a laugh with those around him. He was known to so many as “Mr. Wonderful” or the “Keep Going Guy” which were part of his daily mantras, “today is wonderful and I’m going to keep going.” Jerry had a passion for jazz music that was as vibrant as his personality. He could often be found in the living room losing himself in the melodies, his feet tapping in perfect time to the beat or on a small drum set gifted to him by his grandchildren. Whether our grandfather was bopping to the smooth sounds of a saxophone, singing along with the tunes, or gliding across the dance floor, the music brought him immense happiness and lit up every family occasion. In addition to his love for jazz and his talent for making friends, our grandfather was also an avid paddle ball player. He relished the opportunity to spend time outdoors, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying friendly competition with his friends or even strangers. Jerry was a veteran of World War II and served his country in the United States Navy. Our grandfather's greatest happiness stemmed from our family. He was a true patriarch that made sure he knew what was happening in each of our lives and found something in common to bring up often in conversation. He never stopped telling us how proud he was. Though Jerry is no longer with us, his spirit will dance on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kindness, and his zest for life. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the incredible legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of love, friendship, and a profound appreciation for the beauty of life. He leaves behind his wife Lola Frankel of over 70 years, two children: daughter Brenda Richter (husband Steve Richter), and son Irwin Frankel. Grandchildren Ryan Frankel (wife Evelyn Frankel), Daniel Frankel (wife Marissa Frankel), Elyse Richter, Erica Frankel, and Ethan Richter. And the newest member and next generation, his first great granddaughter Jayden Frankel through Daniel and Marissa Frankel.
