Joe Kolender's Obituary
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Joe Kolender, 79 on May 26, 2021. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend to all whose lives he touched. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges.
His family knew him as a quiet and gentle man who was also a jack of all trades. He loved nothing more than going into his workshop to find the right tool to either fix or build something wonderful. He spent over 40 years as a mechanical and electrical engineer for Otis Elevator. His claim to fame was creating the very first Series 1 elevator button and giving his daughters their own personalized copies.
Joe met the love of his life Roslyn on a blind date that was set up through friends. Their incredible romance spanned 58 years until her recent death in August 2020. Theirs was such an intertwined story that where one ended, the other began. Together, they had two daughters Cindy and Bonnie who he treasured. He instilled a sense of independence, strong values and his hope that their lives would be filled with happiness.
Joe’s grandchildren Stephanie and Eric were his heart and joy. He loved nothing more than spending time with them or hearing of their latest accomplishments.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Beth David Memorial Gardens, 3201 N. 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, FL 33024 on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 10:00 am.
