Joel R. Hillman's Obituary
Joel Robert Hillman, 89 years old of Aventura, Florida, and Quiogue, New York passed away peacefully on June 2, 2023 with his family by his side. Immediately thereafter, a tropical storm affirmed his assent.
Joel was born and raised on the west side of Chicago. He went to Emmet Elementary school, Austin High school and later graduated with a bachelors degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Joel served his country in the US Military.
Joel had a successful and enterprising career as an architect and real estate developer. He built many iconic buildings in the city of Chicago and across the Midwest. Joel spent many summers sailing with his family. He co-captained the 1st sailboat to enter Russian waters post the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Joel was predeceased by his parents Jeanette and Herbert Hillman, of blessed memory.
Survived by Suzin Hillman, his wife of 31 years who shared his passion for tennis, fine dining and travel. Also survived by his 5 children; Larry Hillman (Pam Hillman), Gary Hillman (Pamela Cuming), Cathy Hillman, Heidi Tyson (Gary Tyson), Heather Klein (Dave Klein), 9 granddaughters, 6 great-grandchildren & his sister Sharon Martin (Jerry Martin).

The family will receive visitors, immediately after the service until 4:00 pm in the Hospitality Room at 2000 Island Boulevard, Aventura, Florida 33160. We will honor Joel with a bagel and lox spread from his favorite deli.
