John R. Phillips' Obituary
John R. “Jack” Phillips, 80, of West Palm Beach FL, passed away on May 27, 2013 at his home in West Palm Beach, FL. Jack was born on July 30, 1932 in Norristown, PA to Cornelius and Catherine (Bangert) Phillips.
Jack grew up in Bridgeport and Norristown, PA. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1950 and he joined the US Army in 1951. After serving his country, he began work for the Western Maryland Railroad from which he retired.
Jack married Dolores Pastorius in 1954 in Bridgeport, PA. They were happily married for 58 years. Jack enjoyed singing karaoke and spending time with his family. He also was a feisty (yet accomplished) baseball and basketball coach in the Baltimore County recreational sports arena in the 70’s and 80’s.
Jack was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew Norwood Phillips, Elmira Ophelia Hutcheson Phillips (both of Georgia), John Bangert and Martha Lynch Bangert (both of PA); by his parents, Cornelius and Catherine, and his brothers, Cornelius “Corny” and Donald.
Jack is survived by his beloved spouse, Dolores Pastorius Phillips of West Palm Beach, FL; his loving daughter and sons, Diane Phillips Wilson (Michael) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Cornelius “Neil” Phillips (Erin) of West Palm Beach, FL and Mark Phillips of West Palm Beach, FL; his sister Martha “Marty” Phillips Marino (Pete) of Schwenksville, PA; his grandchildren Jacqueline “Jackie” Wilson Larson (Jacob), Danielle Wilson Best (Daniel) and Kathryn (nee Phillips) McKelvey; his great-grandchildren, Nathalie Larson and Valerie Larson; and his nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 7/13/13, 10:30 a.m. at Mary Immaculate Roman Catholic Church (next to Cardinal Newman School), 390 Sequoia Drive South, West Palm Beach, FL 33409 (www.miwpb.com) with the burial of ashes at St. Augustine's Cemetery in King of Prussia, PA on what would have been his 81st birthday, July 30, 2013 at 10 a.m.
