Dr. Jon Halpern's Obituary
Jon Halpern, M.D.
October 17, 1949 – April 25, 2023
Our beloved Jon died on April 25th, after living with Primary Progressive MS for 40 years with incredible dignity and grace. He was surrounded by the love of his family and friends in the final week of his life.
MS was something he had, but it was not who he was.
Jon was born in Miami and loved growing up in Coral Gables. He was a graduate of Coral Gables High School, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Miami Medical School. Following an Internship in Pathology at the University of Florida, Jon returned to Miami for his Residency in Radiology at the University of Miami. He completed his Fellowship in Radiology at Mount Sinai Hospital Miami Beach.
Jon enjoyed tennis, running and windsurfing, cooking and using his hands to create, until MS made those activities impossible.
Jon had a keen and curious intellect with vast and varied knowledge of many subjects. We often referred to him as our “Encyclopedia, Home Edition”.
Jon was married to Wendy Halpern for 40 years and they were together for 47 years. She was his wife, and his champion. He was fiercely proud of his daughter, Andrea Halpern. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen Halpern, M.D. (Lindsey Dowd) of Santa Rosa, CA. and our nephew, Wayne Pittman. Jon was predeceased by his mother, Faye Halpern and his father, Morton Halpern, M.D.
We are so appreciative of the support of our family and friends.
His childhood friends, Jack (Cookie) Cohn and Knox (Marsha) Rodgers, nephew Wayne Pittman, cousins Aaron & Chana Margolis, Stuart (Karyn) Grossman and numerous cousins who helped to surround him with love. Our friends, Bonnie Eletz, Tobie & Gary Bagliebter and Judy Cooper and our wonderful neighbors who added tremendous support.
We also thank the many NSU P.T. and O.T. grad students who, for many years, assisted Jon and kept his mind and spirit engaged.
There will be an informal remembrance gathering at home Sunday, May 21st, 1-4pm.
