Dr. Jorge Mordujovich's Obituary
DR. JORGE BENJAMIN MORDUJOVICH, M.D., 77, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, in Miami Beach, of complications with myeloma. Jorge was born in La Plata, Argentina, to Julio Mordujovich and Catalina Guecker, the youngest of five and the only boy. Growing up in the tight-knit Jewish community of La Plata, he met and fell in love with the young girl who showed up uninvited at his bar mitzvah. At age 16, Jorge entered into his life’s calling when he began medical school at the University of La Plata School of Medicine, graduating at age 21. Malka and Jorge married in 1970 and left their country and family soon after for the United States. Jorge completed his internship in Washington, D.C., where daughter Sandra was born, and began his nephrology training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where sons Danny and Eddie joined the family. In 1977, Jorge moved his family to complete his nephrology training at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. The family settled in Miami Beach the following year as Jorge began his 45-year nephrology career treating patients with kidney disease and high blood pressure. Over the years he was elected by his peers to positions that included Chief of Nephrology at St. Francis Hospital, Miami Beach; Chief of Nephrology at Miami Heart Institute, Miami Beach; Chief of Nephrology at North Shore Hospital, Miami; Chairman of the Department of Medicine, North Shore Hospital; and Member of the Executive Committee at Miami Heart Institute and North Shore Hospital. Jorge thrived in his medical practice; it was his passion and his joy to care for his patients. For Jorge, medicine was an act of love. If you knew him, you likely considered him your friend as well as your doctor, whether you had kidney-related issues or not. Jorge was a gifted artist, musician, poet, researcher and conversationalist, and he was known to light up a gathering with his indelible voice and the music that flowed naturally and gracefully from his hands on any piano or guitar that might be near. Above all, Jorge was a faithful, adoring husband, partner, and friend to the love of his life, Malka, and a doting, loving and encouraging father and grandfather to Sandra, Danny and Eddie and his grandchildren.
Jorge was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sandra Miriam. He leaves behind many loved ones, dear friends and extended family from Argentina and Israel to his Green and Blue Diamond “kibbutz;” his loving wife of 53 years (“the best thing that ever happened to me”), Malka; his sons, Danny (Ellen) and Eddie (Staci); and his grandchildren Ellie, Ethan, Ari, Lyla, Hannah, Maggie, Keller and Levi. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: The Sandra Miriam Mordujovich (z”l) Youth Education Memorial Fund at Temple Beth Sholom, Miami Beach, (305) 538-7231. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Temple Beth Sholom, 4144 Chase Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33140.
