Josephine Epelbaum's Obituary
Josephine Epelbaum was born in Koretz, Ukraine on August 19, 1923. She went to Cuba together with her Parents Sara and Isaac Askenazi and sister Luisa. In Cuba she had a very happy life and married Sholem Epelbaum, a great Zionist. In 1961, they left Cuba and came to the United States in search of freedom once again. They settled in Miami Beach for many years. Josephine “Pesele” was a very talented seamstress, in Cuba it was her hobby, but in the U.S. she turned it into a career. She opened up a place in Lincoln Road where she was very successful. Years later she opened a women’s dress shop in Downtown Miami. Josephine was very active in the Jewish Community. She was a Life Member of Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization and on the Board of the Inter-American Chapter. Josephine was also on the Board of the Latin Auxiliary of Douglas Gardens as well as a Past President of the Women’s League at Bet Shmuel, Cuban Hebrew Synagogue. Together with her husband Sholem, they supported Friends of the Israel Defence Forces , the Holocaust Memorial and the Jewish Federation. But most of all she loved her family, her daughter Lidia (Michael) and Son Manny (Gizzy), her Grandhildren were also tops on her list, Debbie (Michael), Danny (Kate), Joshua and Adam. And treasured her Great Grandchildren, Hallie, Alex, Tyler, Olivia and Max. Josephine also felt very close to all her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
