Juan Matalon's Obituary
MATALON, Juan passed away Friday, August 14th at 4.30pm. He returned his neshama to HaShem erev Shabbat Kodesh parashat Re'e. Juan Matalon was a founder and past president of Temple Moses and a leader in the Cuban-Jewish community. Arriving in the United States from Cuba he painstakingly worked hard to create a Jewish future for his family. His leadership and vision in the formative years of the Cuban-Jewish community in Miami was instrumental in laying the groundwork for its later success and strong continuity till today. Together with his wife, Rebeca, he lived to see his dream of building a flourishing community come true. He was a Jewish activist in his community and a staunch Zionist. His passion and support for Israel and his benevolence and advocacy on its behalf in the early years of the State were noteworthy. He spread kindness wherever he went and instilled that compassion and love of people in his only son Robert. He was an honest man with a high work ethic. His deep belief in HaShem and his commitment to Torah, Mitzvot and Israel are part of his great legacy. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years marriage, Rebeca, His brother Julio (& wife Raquel) His only son Robert and daughter in-law Becky. Three granddaughters, Vanessa (& husband Benjy) Joanna (& Husband Marcos) Lauren (& fiance Ephraim). Great grandchildren: Brianna, Rebecca, Gabriella and Robert. May his memory be a blessing.
