1931-2019
Smith, Keith Powell, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 11, 2019 in Miami, Florida. Predeceased by his sister Joan (Irvin) and brother Dean (June), he was the devoted husband of JoAnn (nee Harris), beloved father of Allison and Drew (Tiffany), and adored grandfather of Emma and Kate. Dr. Smith attended the University of Western Ontario and after graduating from medical school, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he trained in Otorhinolaryngology at St. Luke’s Hospital under Dr. Julius McCall. Dr. Smith was a renowned surgeon, who built a private practice that served multiple generations of families throughout Northeast Ohio. He was a member of the Aesculapian Society and the Royal College of Surgeons. He was an avid golfer at Indian Creek, where he also played a mean game of croquet. Keith was a weight lifter, exercise swimmer, and daily gin plater at the SeaView poolside. He enjoyed his retired life to the fullest. He was a proprietary member of the Surf Club. A history buff, he always had several books going at once. Dr. Smith’s integrity, honesty, and lightning wit led to long lasting friendships and a few ruffled feathers. He was a one of a kind father and husband who inspired the love and devotion of his family. He will be deeply missed.
