Dr. Lawrence Wheatman's Obituary
Lawrence Wheatman, M.D.
12/17/1937 - 1/30/2026
We mourn the loss of Lawrence (Larry) Wheatman, a respected physician in Miami who passed away peacefully at home at the age of 88.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Larry was raised in Miami, graduated from Miami Senior High, then the University of Miami, where he earned his Bachelor of Science and medical degrees. After residencies in Internal Medicine and Pulmonology at Mount Sinai and Montefiore Hospitals in New York City, he completed military service in the Navy. As a Lieutenant Commander he was the Chief Medical Officer at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, treating soldiers of the Vietnam war. Over four decades in Miami, he practiced medicine with exceptional skill, unwavering dedication, and compassion. For the last years of his practice, he was joined by his daughter Jana which was a joy and honor for them both.
Larry's greatest priority was his family and 63 years of devoted marriage to Myrna (née Dolinger). They had a full life raising two children they are so proud of: Steven (Ellen), and Jana. He was delighted when his exceptional grandsons, Michael (Kristina) and Brian were born, and later an incredible granddaughter, Samantha. He was thrilled to be able to know two adorable great-granddaughters, Roxie and Lila. He also expressed his good fortune for having so many loving cousins and dear friends.
Larry and Myrna have great memories of world travel, skiing, scuba and hosting family holidays. His escapes were his koi pond, orchids, gardening, fine wine and theater. A modest man and a pillar of his family, Larry's legacy is one of service, commitment, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former patients, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Nebo Memorial Gardens, 5505 NW 3rd St, Miami, FL 33126). The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Audubon Society. https://www.audubon.org
