Lea Franco Greenspahn's Obituary
Lea Greenspahn (neé Franco), a longtime resident of Bay Harbor Island and Aventura Florida, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023. A woman of great strength and stamina, she was the example of perseverance and fortitude for all who came to know her.
Lea spent over 20 years working alongside her son at the Jewelry Exchange in Aventura, catering to a wide array of clients – who all quickly recognized and valued her guidance, keen eye for fashion and kindness. She is remembered for her sharp wit, impeccable memory and unwavering support for her immediate and extended family members and many friends.
Lea was born on November 4, 1927, in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, (at the time known as Belgian Congo and later Zaire), to Matilda (neé Galante) and Robert Franco. Robert was an importer/exporter of goods from Belgian Congo until 1934, when the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
Living in Atlanta, she married Irwin Rose and in 1946 gave birth to the first of her three children, moving in 1949 to North Miami Beach where her two sons were born.
She married attorney Mel Greenspahn in 1972 and remained in the North Miami Beach/Aventura area until the time of her passing.
Lea was pre-deceased by her son Robert, and is survived by two children, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren: her daughter Sherry Rose Klein of New York City, her son and daughter in-law Ronnie and Amy Rose of Aventura, Fl, grandchildren Wendy Gendel and husband Jeffrey of Scarsdale, NY, Benjamin Rose of Aventura Fl, Matthew Rose and wife Cori Rose of Coconut Creek, FL, and great-grandchildren Jared Gendel, Audrey Gendel, Mason Rose, and Olive Rose.
