Leonard Cohen's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Leonard Cohen
Len Cohen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 26, 2025. A man whose heart was as expansive as his mind, he lived with passion, humor, and warmth— a rare combination that made everyone who knew him feel seen, valued, and cherished. He was endlessly proud to be a father and grandfather. To his children and grandchildren, he was not only a source of unconditional love but also a guide, confident, and best friend. He adored his wife, Mel, whose creativity, brilliance, and passion he celebrated every single day. Their love was one of mutual admiration, partnership, and enduring affection. He shared an innate bond with his two brothers. He cared deeply for them and shared in their joys and sorrows as if they were his own. And nothing gave him greater joy than witnessing the love and close relationship between his children and grandchildren. As a doctor, he poured his soul into caring for his patients. He loved people. He loved their stories, and he listened intently to their histories. Neurology fascinated him from his early years in medical school and it was never just a profession to him; it was a calling. His warmth, empathy, and exceptional emotional intelligence touched countless lives. He was also passionate about sports in all forms; cricket, rugby (go Bokke!), golf, tennis, and beyond, both as a player and an enthusiastic spectator. And when his children went to the University of Florida, he became a Gator—showing up to games, tailgating with his kids and their friends, and playing beer pong with the best of them. He had a charm that could light up a room and a bear hug that could make the world feel right again. His laughter — rich, booming, and full of life — filled every space he entered. A voracious reader and an avid photographer, he had an insatiable curiosity for the world. Whether traveling to new places, going on safari, or capturing beauty through his lens, he embraced life with awe and gratitude. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and humanity. His presence was a gift, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void. To those who knew him, he will always be remembered for his strong opinions, his quick wit, his kindness, and his ability to make everyone feel like the most important person in the room. He lived by his values — passion, humility, and joy — and the world is gentler, funnier, and better because he was in it.
