Lita Robbins' Obituary
Lita Ann Robbins
March 31, 1937 – September 21, 2023
Lita Robbins, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on September 21, 2023 at the age of 86. Lita Robbins (nee Weiss) was born in Miami, Florida on March 31, 1937.
Lita is survived by her daughter Marla, son Brad and his wife Jane, and three grandchildren Adara, Arianna (“Jules”), and Samara. Lita was preceded in death by her husband Steve, her parents Jules and Fanny Weiss, and her brother Henry.
Lita graduated from Miami High School where she played the oboe in the marching band. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Miami in 1958 and launched her teaching career at Cutler Ridge Elementary.
Lita married Steve in her hometown of Miami, Florida on August 23, 1959. Lita and Steve began their family in South Miami where they were active in the Jaycees and traveled across the state and the country in support of this organization. They moved to Sarasota in 1972 where Lita volunteered throughout the community. Lita was especially engaged with Temple Beth Sholom, ORT, and Sarasota County Schools.
Lita started her second career in 1977 with Blue Star Camps where she managed the main office in Hendersonville, NC during the summer and in Hollywood, FL during the winter. Through Blue Star, Lita formed life-long relationships with campers and staff from all over the world. Lita retired from Blue Star Camps in 2007 but remained a part of the Blue Star family.
There were two types of adventures Lita loved. With family and friends, she ventured to Australia, Norway, Spain, Cuba, Alaska, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Curacao, and many other locales. Closer to home, Lita’s adventures featured bargain hunting trips and BOGO forays with a laser focus on school supplies which she bundled up into annual gifts to several local elementary schools.
Lita and Steve were founding Miami Dolphin season ticket holders. For 57 years, Lita was a stalwart Dolfan–an early prototype of the modern-day “super-fan.” She attended nearly every home game, whether at the Orange Bowl or Joe Robbie Stadium, and did not miss a home opener in the Dolphins’ 57-year history. Lita was a fixture in the stands (Seat 13 on the 50), traveled to several of the team’s international games, and argued eloquently that Coach Shula is the GOAT.
In South Florida, Lita volunteered with Memorial Healthcare System and donated frequently to women’s organizations. She supported Relay for Life and campaigned tirelessly to help find a cure for breast cancer.
Lita was a friend to all. We will dearly miss Lita and her sweet smile.
