Dr. Lois Pulver Krop's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Dr. Lois Krop
Dr. Lois Krop, a renowned family therapist and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023. Her departure leaves a profound void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on December 24, 1930, in Scranton Pennsylvania to second generation immigrants, Lois sailed through high school and entered Penn State. She met Michael Krop (“Mickey”) a few weeks into her freshman year; he announced that they would be married at the conclusion of their first date. They were married in 1953 and remained inseparable until Mickey’s death in 2018.
After time in DC and Chicago they moved to Miami, which was a quiet backwater at the time. Lois went back to school and got her Ed.D. in family therapy. She opened her own successful practice and somehow, she still managed to be a full-time mom. Her practice thrived and she helped countless individuals and families over the years. It was impossible to go to a restaurant with her without having a client stop by the table.
Lois and Mickey loved to travel and everywhere they went, top of the itinerary was visiting local synagogues and meeting with congregants. They were very active advocates for Soviet Jewry and, at no small risk to themselves, visited Jewish dissidents in Russia during their travels there.
Lois’ defining characteristic was her optimism. She saw the good in everything and everyone and, somehow, she made others see it too. She was one of a kind. A mensch in the truest sense.
Dr. Lois Krop is survived by her loving children-Pamela, Daniel, Judith and David. She had 12 beloved grandchildren and will be missed by all. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all those whose lives she touched.
