Mamie Schaefer's Obituary
Mamie Truppe Schaefer, born December 1917 in Hammond, Indiana passed away, Saturday, September 6th. Mamie Schaefer was a ground breaking Chicago female entrepreneur in the early 1940’s, a fashion designer, artist and longtime South Florida business leader. Mamie was a life-long philanthropist and supporter of liberal causes. She received her training as a fashion designer at the Chicago Art Institute. She continued to paint into her 80’s. Mamie was married to Albert Slavin, who gave his life for his country during World War II, prior to marriage to her late husband Marston Schaefer. Mamie is survived by her daughter Elaine Slavin Armstrong (John) of Sun City Center, Florida, her son Jeffrey Schaefer (Jane) of Orange Park, Florida, daughter Abby Schaefer of North Miami Beach, Florida, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was a matriarch of a large extended family spread across the country. Her wisdom, generositrecipes, artwork, and love will not be forgotten. Private services will be held for immediate family members only.
