I was just cleaning out my desk and came across a business card that Margie had given my mother. Margie and I met when we lived in Sanford Avenue in Flushing. She was my babysitter and whenever I was mad at my mother I would “run away” to her apartment on the 3rd floor. I remember her playing the piano and singing for me. We were bothered only children and considered each other to be “chosen sisters”. I was the flower girl at her wedding. We lost touch when I moved away but my mom and I reconnected years later always with the intention of getting together again. When I found her card with her phone number I called and found out that it was disconnected. Then I did a google search and saw her obituary. I cried and cried and realized how short life can be and how I wish that I had found her card a year ago because I would have reached out to her. I miss her smile and her voice and her beautiful straight hair. Rest in peace Margie. I love you.
