Marilyn M. Gabriel's Obituary
Marilyn Susan Markuse, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away October 27, 2024. She was born July 13, 1954 in Portland ME, the third child of Lea and Oskar Markuse. Marilyn attended Northeastern University and graduated from the University of Maine.
As the a child of Holocaust survivors, Marilyn grew up with a deep work ethic. She began working at 16 and during summers, worked at Lea and Oskar’s Old Orchard Beach Store. Eventually moving to Cape Elizabeth, Marilyn started a family and owned several Mr Bagel Franchises. Moving to South Florida in the early 2000’s, Marilyn subsequently became the Hospitality Director for the Marriott Hotel in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Shortly thereafter, Marilyn met Alan Gabriel and they were married in 2011.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Alan Gabriel, daughter Rebecca, son in law Eric, grandchildren Ruby and Marty, Aaron Gabriel, Jacob & Caroline Gabriel (who were like children to Marilyn), sister Gail and brother in law David Berkowitz of Scarborough Maine, and brother Jack and sister in law Vicki Markuse of Brookline, MA.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (www.komen.org).
