"Mechi" Mercedes Bakalchuk's Obituary
BAKALCHUK, “Mechi” Mercedes, 75, of Surfside, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at home. She was born in Havana, Cuba (La Colonia Hebrea Cubana) in 1939 to Burach and Frida Gelbs of Opole, Poland.
Mechi was both a strong and sensitive woman who enjoyed living life, sharing her happiness, but never her pain, and who will forever be remembered dancing salsa with style and grace with her husband Ramon of 56 years. Mechi was extremely loving and proud of her two sons Leonard and Phillip, and doted on her three grandchildren Ellie, Sara, and Adam.
Mechi is survived by her sons Leonard of New York City, NY and Phillip of Newton, MA and their respective spouses; and her three grandchildren Ellie, Sara, and Adam, of Newton, MA…as well as her many loving nieces, nephews and other friends.
