Melvin Fred Frankel's Obituary
FRANKEL, Melvin Fred, noted local attorney, passed away surrounded by family on May 26 at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra, sons Marc and Adam ( Sara) and grandson Matthew. Mel was a Miami Beach native, and although he spent two of his high school years in France and Switzerland, he graduated from Miami Beach Sr. High in 1958. He then attended Cornell University and transferred in his junior year to University of Miami, graduating in 1961. He was awarded a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law in 1964, and received his Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1965. He practiced law in South Florida for close to 50 years with dedication, honesty and integrity, and could always be counted on by his family and friends. Mel was a 50 year member of Hibiscus Lodge F & AM and became Master of the Lodge, in addition to being active in other civic organizations. He enjoyed fishing, antique collecting, opera, and traveling the world. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday May 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 5505 NW 3rd Street in Miami. Shiva will be at home, 20340 N.E. 20th Place Miami, 33179. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Myositis Association, online at www.myositis.org.
