One of the gifts our parents bestowed on my sister and me was an appreciation of friendship. For my parents, friendship was for a lifetime. My mom had many friends whom she loved, but her two best friends were both named Miriam. We called them the two Mimies. Mimi Simon had been my mom's best friend since they were both 5 years old. Many years later my parents became friends with Mimi and Morty Hauser. They loved the Hausers. They were friends and neighbors both in Fair Lawn and in Boynton Beach, and though I can't recall who moved to Boyton Beach first, it was the impetus for the others to move there too. The last time my mom made her famous mandel bread, she gave half to Mimi Hauser. The Garelicks devoured the first half in no time as was/is our way. Mimi ate some of her half and froze the rest. After mom passed she thawed out the mandel bread she had saved and we were able to eat some in mom's honor. Miriam Hauser was there for us when our parents passed and let us know her door was always open to us if we needed it. I know my sister, Arlene maintained a connection with Mimi over the years and called me today to let me know of her passing. My condolences to Carol. May you take comfort as I do in knowing that the four of them, Mimi and Morty and Bella and Kenny are sitting at a table somewhere enjoying the best deli ever.
With love, in sympathy,
