MIRIAM YASGUR MASS
April 16, 1920 – September 16, 2014
Born Miriam Gertrude Miller in the Bronx, “Mimi” graduated from Hunter College and then moved to Sullivan County to marry Max Yasgur in February, 1940. During her Sullivan years Miriam was active in Hadassah, supervising four chapters and serving as President of the Monticello Chapter, was a third grade teacher in Monticello, working with Max in building Yasgur Farms Dairy and was Max’s support during the Woodstock Festival. She and Max had a daughter Lois who died tragically in 1977 and a son Sam. Following Max’s untimely death in 1973 Miriam married Simon Mass, an accountant in Monticello, in 1976. In 1984 Miriam and Sy moved to Pembroke Pines, Florida. There Miriam was active in Hadassah as a “Founder” along with Sy as an “Associate” and served in various Hadassah offices. Her grandchildren from Sam and his wife Eva are Jill and Stuart and his wife Sirine. Her new Great-Grandson Malek Shakib Sabaya Yasgur brought her most recent pleasure. Her Mass family consisted of Sy’s daughter Janet, grandchildren Alysha and Ari and great-grandchildren Ayala and Eytan. A devoted Mother and Grandmother she was loved by all in her extended family and by her many, many friends.
