Miriam Pearl's Obituary
PEARL, Miriam Jeannette, a Miami resident since 1953, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Monday, February 22, at age 98. Born in Philadelphia to a large, rollicking family, she was one of 42 first cousins and loved telling stories of their growing up together in their South Philadelphia neighborhood. Her mother, Lena, emigrated from Hungary to America where she met and married her American husband, Sam Kagel. Miriam had a sweet, happy and loving disposition, and regularly expressed a deep appreciation for her family and for her lifelong good fortune. She loved living independently while being within one block of 4 generations of her family.
Miriam met and married Morton S. Pearl, MD (also born in Philadelphia), at age 21. They adored each other and had a long and happy marriage. Before Morton passed away in 1991, they celebrated their 50 years married with a three-generation family cruise. She was an avid reader, beloved at her local library, and she also played golf, canasta and an excellent game of bridge.
Miriam is survived by her daughter, Lynn, her son, Jeffry, her dear daughter-in-law, Marci, adored grandchildren David Pearl and Amanda Mayan, and Amanda’s husband, Haim. The joys of her later years were her great-grandchildren, Maya and Noah Mayan. She is survived, as well, by her devoted nephew Larry Kagel and his wife, Roz.
The family will be sitting Shiva on Thursday, Feb 25 and Friday, Feb 26, from 1-8pm at the Pearl residence. Please call for information.
