Miriam Stahl's Obituary
On Wednesday morning, Feb. 3, Miriam “Mimi” Israel Stahl died in her sleep following a day surrounded by family. She was 89-years-old.
Miriam acted as a devoted matriarch to her large family and was known to always be feeding someone. She baked loaves of challah bread and cooked large feasts, even if she’d hardly eat a plate herself.
Over the years, she gave her two granddaughters bad haircuts and good hugs. She was blunt, stubborn, quick witted and fiercely loyal to her friends and family. She knit sweaters four sizes too big knowing they would last years of Florida winters. She loved eating Entenmann’s Madeleines cookies and prided herself on her independence, living in the home she created with her late husband, Mordka.
Born on Dec. 7, 1931 in Lisbon, Portugal, Miriam was the eldest of five siblings and a natural caretaker. After marrying the love of her life, she and Mordka moved their family of six to the United States in April of 1975, settling in the Hollywood Hills, Florida neighborhood. Together, they were integral figures within the local Jewish community and longtime members and supporters of the Young Israel synagogue.
Miriam is survived by her children, Rafael, Sara, Daniel, Miguel; her son-in-law, Michael; her granddaughters, Emily and Melody; her siblings, Ester, David, Raquel and Judite; her brother-in-law Paul and their children, Ira and Nina, as well as countless extended family members who loved and adored her.
A small online service will be hosted by the Beth David Memorial Gardens/Levitt Weinstein-Jewish Funeral Home and Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Young Israel of Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale.
