Mollie Vine's Obituary
VINE
Mollie passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013. She was 93 years young. She was the daughter of David and Lena Miller of New York. She was predeceased by her husband Abe who died in 2011 and three brothers, Bill, Joseph and Mac. She was a tomboy in her early years in Brooklyn. Her brother Bill started out as a hoofer and song and dance vaudeville act. He and her brother Joe used to spend many hours teaching Mollie to tap dance. She loved it and made her debut appearance at the Palace Theatre in New York in the 1930’s. When her brother opened his Bill Miller’s Riviera in the early 50’s, it was the premier night club of its time. With acts like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Lena Horne, Tony Martin, Myron Cohen, Jackie Gleason, Joey Bishop and many more. Her husband Abe managed it for years. The family moved to Miami Beach in the early 50’s, where her husband Abe owned South Beach Hotels. His true passion was acting though and as a member of the Foot Lighters Club and Screen Actors Guild Mollie supported his ambitions. He appeared in many national commercials and films, including the Bodyguard. Mollie always included their children Jodie and David in their many adventures, including visiting her brother Bill Miller’s Bonaire Hotel in the ABC Islands, moving to Las Vegas for a year where Abe managed Bill Miller’s Dunes Hotel. Later they traveled to Reno, Nevada for a summer where Abe managed Bill Miller’s Riverside Hotel. David was allowed to bring his saxophone where he held his own playing in the stage band for Le Crazy Horse review. Mollie was so proud of the accomplishments of her brother Bill Miller’s children. Jimmy, a drummer and record producer who worked and played with the Rolling Stones and Judith Miller of the New York Times who went to jail to defend reporter’s rights to not reveal their sources. During the early 60’s, Mollie sent Jodie and David for fantastic summers at Camp Osceola, in North Carolina. Later in life, Abe and Mollie traveled the world and Mollie would do her dance routines on the cruise ships. And when she was at the end…when she was frail and fragile and her son David would anxiously try to wake her when she was sleeping, anticipating the worst, she would turn over and give a big smile, only pretending she was gone…Then she would say, Vine is fine. She died peacefully at her home as she wanted it. She is survived by her daughter Jodie (Jerry) Levien and her son David (Michele) Vine DDS. Chapel Service TODAY, Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at
