Mortimer Jay Walsh's Obituary
WALSH, Mortimer passed away at age 84 in his home on February 19, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on December 9, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to Edward and Sadie Walsh. After his father’s untimely death, he left New York and moved to Miami, where he was instantly smitten with his landlord’s daughter, the stunning Hana Okun, who served as a sergeant in the Israeli Air Force. Morty quickly entered the university, where Hana was enrolled, and was a pre-med student. Morty and Hana wed on December 26, 1959, and Morty left college to work as an air conditioning sales manager at Weathermatic, then Carrier, then United Technologies. Morty started his own retail air-conditioning company, then returned to sales, the work he loved. Morty and Hana traveled, enjoyed a rich social life and their time with family. Morty was a great man and loved by all who knew him. Known by his family as the “Prince of Homecrest Avenue,” he had an irreverent wit and great sense of humor. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of kindness. Morty Walsh is survived by his wife, Hana, his children, Lisa (David) and Edward Walsh, his sister Beverly Greiper, grandchildren Jordan and Lila Rosendorf and Joseph Walsh and his niece and nephew, Ellen and Scott Greiper (Anjelica) who were like children to him. Graveside Service 10:00 a.m., TODAY, February 22, 2018 at Lakeside Memorial Park, 10301 NW 25th Street, Doral, Florida. Arrangements by Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 865-2353
