Morton Schomer's Obituary
SCHOMER, MORTON J., O.D., 86, passed away on December 5, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol, who he married in 1952. They enjoyed their life to the fullest, traveling, being with friends and family, and dancing the night away! He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, papa, friend, and mentor. Morton was an Optometrist, specializing in behavioral optometry. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He served in the U.S. Army at Madigan Hospital, at Tacoma, Washington. For more than sixty years, he has worked with learning disabled children and adults, evaluating their dysfunctions and designing programs for their remediation. Dr. Schomer has been a consultant for perceptual development for the Head Start program and several schools. He taught courses in special education, health and wellness at local colleges. Dr. Schomer established Home Eye Care, traveling to senior centers and children's centers. His most recent accomplishment as an author, was the book, "Building a Better Mind. By Engaging the Physical Realities." Morton is also survived by his loving children, Steven Schomer of Miami FL, Lisa Schomer Eichenbaum (Barry) of Miami, FL and Lynda Schomer Mecoli of Hollywood FL. Morton will also be missed as a cherished papa by Rachel (Steven) Abbott, Rebecca Eichenbaum, and Kayla Mecoli. Chapel service 2 PM Monday, December 8, 2014 at Levitt-Weinstein/Beth David Memorial Gardens at 3201 NW 72nd Avenue, Hollywood FL 33024. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein 305-932-2700.
