Morty Craft's Obituary
Morty Craft Obituary
August 19, 1920 - January 27, 2022
Aventura, Florida We lost a true OG recording industry pioneer, influencing R&B, doo-wop, rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly with a multitude of hit records over the course of five decades. Long time New York City resident Morton “Morty” Craft, 101, passed away on January 27. Morty was born in Brockton, Mass on August 19, 1920. A product of the big band era, Morty was a musician, arranger, producer, songwriter and record label owner. As an A&R man and hitmaker for the MGM, Mercury and ABC-Paramount labels he then ran Warwick Records.
Morty’s love and passion for the music industry was tireless. While managing the use of his vast catalog of songs and recordings around the world and “holding court” at annual music conferences, he continued to record, mentor and inspire young artists to succeed in the industry until he moved to Florida at the age of 92. He loved his family very much, was very proud of their achievements. Morty is survived by his children, son Alan Craft of New York, and daughters Chris Craft Weinberg (Michael) of Miami Beach, FL; Carrie Craft Chu (Robert) of Jersey City, NJ and Tiffany Craft (Alonso) of Los Angeles, CA; as well as his grandchildren, Max, Shay and Zoe Weinberg, and Ryan Chu, and his loving caregiver, Maxine, who will continue to let his legacy and music impact the world. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstien Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 932-2700
