Myron Joel Brodie's Obituary
Myron Joel Brodie passed away peacefully in his home, Saturday, June 17th, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 23, 1932 in New York City to Rae and Irving Brodie. He was the youngest of 3 sons and adored his two big brothers – Leo and Stuart. He met the love of his life, Charlotte Glovsky Brodie, 68 years ago at Camp Walt Whitman and together they shared an amazing 64 years of marriage. They were blessed with 3 wonderful children – Steven, Debbie & David.
He was born in New York and moved as a young boy to Swampscott, Massachusetts. He attended Western Maryland University and then went on to Boston University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work. He proudly served as an officer in the US Army. During his Bar Mitzvah year, he had an experience that forever changed the course of his life. He saw the images of the atrocities of the Holocaust and knew that he would dedicate his life to the survival and prosperity of the Jewish people.
He started his career in Kansas City as the executive director of Temple Beth Shalom. In 1963 he moved with his family to Hollywood, Florida where he became the Executive Director of the South Broward Jewish Federation. He remained there until he was courted to become the Assistant Executive Director of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation in 1967. In 1973 he became the Executive Vice President and served in that capacity with much distinction until his retirement in 1992, when he was named Executive Vice President Emeritus and served in that role until his passing.
He loved everything about life, but most of all – his family. He cherished his wife, Charlotte, his son Steve (Shelly), his daughter Debbie (Ed), and his son David (Amy). He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and their spouses: Bradley & Alexis Brodie, Michael & Rooney Brodie, Alyssa Brodie, Garrett, Kelsey & Darin Weiss, Neil & Alexandra Brodie and Dana Brodie. In the past 3 ½ years he was also blessed with 4 great grandchildren – Jackson, Hanna, Adam & Ian. Myron loved to sail on his “Campaign”, loved to travel the world with his “bride”, loved to spend time with his family and always tried to make the world a better place. He courageously battled Parkinson’s disease for the last 13 years with strength and determination.
We are especially grateful to his caregivers – Glenda Alahmsry, Deysi Cid De Santiago, Danilsi Balbuena and the staff at the Palace Suites for giving him so much love and comfort each and every day.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rae & Irving Brodie, his brothers Leo & Stuart Brodie and his son, David Brodie.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19th at 1:00 PM at Bet Shira Congregation, 7500 SW 120 Street with interment to follow at Mt. Nebo/Miami Memorial Gardens 5505 NW 3rd Street. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Arrangements by Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert (305) 865-2353
