Nanci Goldman Deutsch's Obituary
Nanci Goldman Deutsch, April 2, 1944 – August 14, 2024, age 80 of Coconut Grove, Florida our fancy (in a good way) mother and grandmother passed away on August 14, 2024 with her daughters and caretakers at her side.
She is survived by her husband of over 60 years Harold, by her devoted daughters Alison Schonwald (Seth) and Stacey Shoer (Howard), grandchildren Mack, Carter, and Ellie, the incredible team of caretakers, her book clubs, canasta games, and lifelong friends.
Nanci grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, down the street from her family-owned Goldman Hotel. She graduated from Kimberly Academy, graduated from Jackson College at Tufts University, and earned a Master’s in education from Lesley College. She was an elementary school teacher in NYC public schools (PS 40) and later co-owned A Likely Story, a children’s book and educational toy store in South Miami.
Nanci was known for her laugh, intelligence, her love of books, art, opera, classical music, Tanglewood, her collections of beautiful and interesting things, her signature eyeglass frames, and mostly her stories about her children and grandchildren. A member of Temple Beth Am for 50 years and A Lion of Judah, her Judaism was central to her identity.
Donations in her honor can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org, National MS Society, www.nationalmssociety.org and The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, www.jewishmiami.org.
Nanci’s life will be celebrated at 11am on Monday August 19th, 2024 at Temple Beth Am, 5950 N. Kendall Drive, Pinecrest, Florida 33156. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 932-2700.
