Nancie Segel's Obituary
On February 3rd, the world lost a beautiful light when Nancie Segel passed away, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 25, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio. After marriage to her husband of 52 years, she moved to Albany where she lived most of her life. She later made her home in Aventura, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Rachel Friedberg, both Holocaust survivors whose strength and resilience shaped the values she carried throughout her life.
One of four, she grew up with her siblings Leon, Dorothy, and Bernice in a home filled with deep love, lush gardens and sweet cats. From an early age, she had an undeniable zest for life and a desire to help others. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like they mattered — because to her, they did.
She spent 25 years working with Weight Watchers, where her compassion and encouragement helped countless people, including her husband Ken, find confidence and health. Later, she founded her own business dedicated to helping others eat better and live fuller lives. Her work was never just a job — it was an extension of her deep desire to help people feel good inside and out.
She loved to dance, to hum a tune wherever she went, and to go for long walks while chatting about life. Zumba and Spinning were some of her greatest joys — her energy and rhythm made her a natural on the dance floor and the bicycle. Her vibrant “fro” of curly hair and long red nails became her signature — a reflection of her colorful spirit and unapologetic self-confidence.
Above all else, Nancie loved her family. She shared a devoted 52-year marriage with her husband, Ken. Their daughters, Julie Hindman (Ben) and Amie Akiva (Hagai), were the center of her world. She cherished being a grandmother to her grandchildren Zoe, Poppy, Noa, and Ariel, filling her home with warmth, devotion, and music.
She lived life with passion and an open heart — always ready to listen, to laugh, to lend a hand, or to dance to the rhythm of her own joy. Her spirit, kindness, and light will live on in everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
