Neil Jay Berman's Obituary
Services for Miami-Dade attorney Neil Jay Berman, a founder of the law firm Berman Wolfe & Rennert, will be held at noon on Monday at Temple Beth Am in Pinecrest, where he lived. Berman died Sunday of lung cancer at age 63. Mourners will gather at noon at the temple at 5950 SW 88th St. Burial will follow at Mount Nebo/Kendall Memorial Gardens at 5900 SW 77th Ave. A Connecticut native, Berman was born in Hartford and after graduating from the University of Connecticut Law School in 1975, began practicing law in Miami-Dade where he eventually founded his law firm, now Rennert Vogel Mandler & Rodriguez, P.A. Berman retired in 2011 due to his illness. For nearly four decades, Berman had a thriving bankruptcy and commercial litigation practice, representing many real estate developers, his wife said. An avid runner since the 1960s — long before it was popular — and a computer whiz with a seven-monitor set-up, Berman was also passionate about his family. “His love for us was boundless and everything he did, he did for us,” said his widow, Jill. Those who wish to make a contribution in Berman’s memory can do so by donating to Temple Beth Am, the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation or Miami Jewish Health Systems. Besides his wife, Berman is survived by his mother, Bunny and sons, Zack and Ben. He is predeceased by his father, Bob, and sister, Joy. Arrangements are being handled by Blasberg Rubin-Zilbert.
