Ofenia Kurland's Obituary
October 1, 2024: Beloved, wife, mother, and grandmother; Ofenia Kurland, passed away peacefully in her home in Peekskill, NY today, she was 95. Born in Zareby Koscielne, Poland, she immigrated to Cuba with her family before the start of WWII. In the mid-1950s, her family again fled totalitarianism and immigrated to the United States before the Castro revolution. She met and married Abraham Kurland, a Holocaust survivor, in New York and they married in 1957. She dedicated her life to her family and community service. She taught adult education Spanish, as well as special education elementary and middle school. After Abraham passed away, she served as a volunteer at Memorial Regional Hospital South in Hollywood, Florida for 20 years. Ofenia leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Bob Rose, a Son, Arthur Kurland, four grandchildren, Nick, Billy, Garrison, and Maryann, and many other people who loved her and her sweet smile. Funeral services to be held at Beth David Memorial Gardens / Levitt Weinstein Funeral Home & Cemetery on Sunday, October 6 at 2pm.
