Richard Joseph Hirschfeld's Obituary
HIRSCHFELD, Richard Joseph
A man known for his generosity of spirit, love of family, quiet warmth and keen intellect died peacefully July 27th after a series of health set-backs. He was 84 and is survived by his beloved, dedicated wife Sydell. They were "in love" and inseparable for 63 years. His greatest joy came from being the head of a four generation family: daughter Marla (Michael), son Neal (Noelle), grandchildren Bradley (Rachel), Jared , Jordan (deceased), James and Sara great-grandchildren Chase and Ryder.
Richard was born in New York City , on October 20, 1931, to Irene and Milton Hirschfeld. His early years, along with his sister Doris, were spent in Jackson Heights, where he graduated from Newtown High School. He later graduated with honors from New York University. After his Korean War service, he and Sydell moved to Plainview, New York where he ran "Hirschfeld Electric," a family company well known for being established during the Civil War and for installing the locks and gates of the first banks of New York and Wall Street. He was proud to be a fifth generation American. Along with their two children, they moved to North Miami Beach where they spent their next years and where he became a well-known and respected financial advisor. Travel, love of the Miami Dolphins, Broadway shows and family get-togethers filled his life.
His kind and gentle ways, along with his sweet disposition and sense of humor, made him unique. His strength, selfless nature, loyalty and patience will serve as an inspiration to all who survive him. He was a mensch. His family is blessed for having the joy of his love and the loss of this unique man will be felt deeply, especially to his soulmate and best friend, Sydell.
