Richard Alan Simon, also known as Dick, passed away peacefully at his home in Cooper City, FL, on November 26, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born on August 26, 1935, in Chicago, IL. Richard was a beloved husband to Michelle and a loving father to Steven, Donald, Derek, Britten, Sydney, Samuel, and Noah. He was a proud grandfather to Scott, Michael, Mark, Kevin, Devyn, Suttyn, Daltyn, Emerson, Stella, Oliver, Kai, and Emory, and a great-grandfather to William and Sienna. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lillian, as well as his first wife, Phyllis.
Richard was known for his strong will, generosity, and charm. He had a thunderous voice that commanded every room he walked into. Richard attended Von Steuben High School for his education. Following high school graduation, Richard served in the army as a private first class during the Korean War for two years. His business career began when he started working for his father’s insurance company, St. Lawrence, in Chicago, IL. After learning the ropes from Samuel, Richard embarked on a successful career as the proprietor of many insurance companies, owner of a luxury yacht company, thoroughbred racehorse breeder, restaurant owner and operator, and entrepreneur.
Richard had a passion for various hobbies, including golf, tennis, skiing, scuba diving, boating, horseback riding, and traveling. He found joy and relaxation in these activities throughout his life.
Richard worshipped at the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101, in his memory.
Family will be received at 11:00 a.m. and friends will be received at 11:20 a.m. at Levitt-Weinstein Funeral Home on Friday, December 1, 2023. A gathering to celebrate Richard’s life will immediately follow the funeral services. Please contact the family for details.
