Robert D. Grossman's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Grossman, known as “Buster” to many, died at his home in Quayside on Sunday October 23, 2011 just days shy of his 91stbirthday. Born in Detroit on October 28, 1920, Bob attended Albion College and The University of Michigan. Bob moved to Dayton, OH where he operated a small tire business that ultimately was acquired by the Dayton Tire and Rubber as he became competition to them.Recognizing South Florida’s opportunities in the late 1950’s, he moved to Miami Beach where he resided for many years on Rivo Alto Island with his wife Carolyn. Passionate about business and never one to miss a day of work, Bob envisioned a future in the plastics business. He became a pioneer in the rotational molding industry, founding and growing RotoCast Plastic Products into a company with six nationwide locations, fifteen product lines and hundreds of custom products. He was proud to be the first President of the Association of Rotational Molders and was the first inductee into its Hall of Fame. He later reacquired the TerraCast and Classic Lamp Posts product lines in 2010. Bob was also an active real estate investor acquiring a large commercial real estate portfolio in Las Vegas and was an innovator and developer of mini warehouses and private post offices.A devoted family man and philanthropist, Bob was especially relentless in his quest to find a cure for Huntington’s disease. Preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, brother Leonard Grossman and sister Dorothy Farrell Gould, he is survived by his Son Robert (Carol) Grossman, Jr., daughter Nancy Goldring, loving grandchildren RobBee (Josh) Fredricks, Wendi (Ayal) Weis, Geoffrey (Ali) Grossman, Bradley (Liz) Goldring and Gregory Goldring; adored great grandchildren Jeremy, Alana and Haylie Fredricks, Adam Weis, Jake Grossman, Cooper, Spencer and Delanie Goldring and numerous loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grandnephews and his devoted companion Sue Shocket.Memorial services will be 11AM Thursday October 27, 2011 at Levitt-Weinstein Chapel, 18840 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, FL, 33180.
