Robert Finkelstein
Irwin Finkelstein, a/k/a Robert “Bob” Finkelstein was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on November 1, 1940. He was the third and last child of Herman Finkelstein and Anna Fischgrund Finkelstein.
Bob was a renaissance man with a deep knowledge of literature and the arts. He attended Franklin and Marshall College, University of California at Berkeley graduate school, and the University of Chicago Divinity School. Bob obtained a law degree at the University of Florida Law School and was a member of the Florida bar. He operated a solo law office on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.
Besides New Jersey, Bob also lived in the Tucson, Arizona and Staten Island, New York, the adopted home towns of his brother, Edwin “Ed” Finkelstein, and his sister, Helen Finkelstein Rainbow. Bob also lived on a kibbutz in Israel. Bob moved to Miami Beach to be with his mother until her death in 2007.
Bob died in his home in North Miami, Florida on September 11, 2020. He is survived by Helen’s sons, Henry Rainbow of Somerset, New Jersey, and his wife, Lena, and children, Daniel and Leah, and Martin Rainbow of Brooklyn, New York, and his wife Juanita.
