Ronald Lawrence Thaw's Obituary
THAW, RONALD LAWRENCE, passed away on Monday, October 10th, a little over a month after his 90th birthday. He was born in Boston, MA, on July 28, 1926, to Mildred and Jack Thaw. Ronnie was a graduate of Boston Latin School in 1943 and the University of Massachusetts in 1948, with a Bachelor of Arts in History. His university education was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army 101st Field Artillery Battalion Battery C, 1946 – 1947, where he was part of the army of occupation in Nara, Japan. He and his wife, Elaine and son, Jeffrey, moved to Miami in 1951 to join his father, Jack, in running the family’s Liberty Bar and Package Goods in Liberty City. After graduating from the University of Miami in 1954, with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, he joined the offices of Horwath and Horwath as a junior accountant. Later, with partners Morris Tennenbaum and Ray Bookman, he formed the accounting firm of Tennenbaum, Bookman, and Thaw. The firm partnership later transitioned to include his brother Mark, and Glenn Gopman, becoming Thaw, Gopman, and Associates. The firm merged in 2004 with Morrison, Brown, Argiz, and Farra. Ronnie is survived by his wife Elaine, son Jeffrey (Faith), brother Mark (Irene), and beloved nephews Jonathan (Amanda) and their son Andrew, and Benjamin (Jennifer) and their daughters, Rachel and Vivian. He was a man of great integrity and generosity and was adored by his family and colleagues. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 5505 NW 3rd Street, at 11AM Friday, October 14th.
