Rose King- Friedland's Obituary
Rose King-Friedland, a Holocaust Survivor, peacefully passed away one month shy of her 100th birthday. Rose had resided in South Florida for decades in Hallandale and then Bal Harbour. She was born in Kisvarda, Hungary and lived in many small towns and cities in Hungary, eventually living in Budapest, before being taken by the Nazis to Auschwitz and eventually immigrating to the US after being detained in a resettlement camp in Italy.
Rose lived and worked in NYC in the fashion industry and had a very successful manufacturing business known as Rozsikas Textiles. As with many Holocaust Survivors, when she entered the United States, the information on her immigration entry documents and subsequent naturalization in 1953 referred to her name as Rose Snyder and indicated her birthplace as Germany. Rose after several marriages including to Jay King, a successful New Jersey restaurateur relocated to South Florida with her son, Frank King.
Rose was active in the community and was a patron of the Florida Opera, an Angel at Villa Maria, a member of the Sisterhood at Temple Emanuel, a Founder at Miami Jewish Home/Douglas Gardens, and an active supporter of various youth organizations including the Miami-Dade Youth Fair and the Sunland Training Center where she served as the President of the Sunflower Society.
Rose Friedland’s husband, George Friedland, predeceased Rose, as did her daughter Judith Collison. Rose is survived by her son, Frank “Effie” King, and grandchildren Yair and his wife Mayan, Sarel, and Ayelet King, and Daniel, Steve, Mandy, Greg, and Benjy Collison, and her great grandson Binaya King.
