Ruth Marcus Bounous passed away on November 3rd at the age 77 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Rose and Samuel Marcus. She was a brilliant woman who receive Read Obituary
I have thought about her many many times and now I see she passed six years ago. I regret not having stayed in touch with her. I was 47 when I went back to graduate school and she was so encouraging, so brilliant, so funny, so insightful. I thought we were so lucky to have a professor from Cornell as I came to Texas from New York. May her memory be a blessing. She touched so many lives.

Although I didn't know Ruth when we lived in Brownsville growing up,I found her name on a list of subscribers to a column written about our town's history along with her current residence and email. We both lived in San Antonio so I emailed, we met at Starbucks, became friends and she became part of our extended family celebrating the Jewish holidays together. My husband also knew Ruth from OLLU.
We are so saddened to hear the news of Ruth's passing. She was above all an accomplished woman who truly cared for her family, friends and co-workers. Shalom, Ruth. The world is a better place for your having been a part of it.
To her family, I remember meeting you for the Passover Seder several years ago. May you find peace in the memories of happy times spent together.
