Ruth Harke's Obituary
Ruth Harke, 93, of Pembroke Pines, Florida passed away February 16, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Walter Harke, loving mother of Lance (Gina) Harke, Paula (Wolfgang) Treskow and Andrea (Mike) Granese, cherished grandmother of Randi Treskow, Jacob Harke, Erik Harke, Ryan Harke, Matthew Harke, Mikey Granese and Rachel Granese, adored great-grandmother of Maya Harke, Jaxx Treskow, Walter Harke and Asher Harke.
Ruth was born on October 18th, 1932, in Brooklyn to loving parents Leon and Ana Alcosser. Raised during the Great Depression and World War II, Ruth overcame hardship and war rationing to meet the twin flame of her life, Walter Harke, when he whistled at her at Jones Beach right after the war. Their love was epic and overflowing, spanning generations and lifetimes, across oceans and continents, a love so deep and so strong they never left their each other’s side, never wavered in their love for each other and for their family, and now are blessed to rest together in eternal peace.
Ruth was the life of any party, her laugh infectious, her smile wide, her fashion wild and bold, her jewelry bright and sparkly. She was movie-star gorgeous, generous, vivacious, and incredibly resilient. She lived to dance, travel, see shows, eat at restaurants, watch movies and enjoy life. She was an irrepressible force of nature, and if you met her once you knew her forever. She loved the ocean, Las Vegas, a nice Manhattan or Brandy Alexander and singing the entire happy birthday song to her family – more than once.
Most importantly, Ruth lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and wanted nothing more than to gather and laugh and celebrate with the family she loved. She raised her family with unconditional love, massive spirit, endless generosity and total support. She was always in your corner and always rooting for your success. In truth it was Ruth’s will, her drive and her overflowing love for family that kept us Harkes together and gave us all the lives we have today. None of us would be here without her. She is dearly loved and missed every day
